Stifled Song

She perched on
The swing inside
Her golden cage
Hung outside
The Palace garden
Under the blue expanse
Murmuring melancholy.

Inviting her to soar
Towards it
She threw herself
Against the bars
That constricted
The true purpose

Heavy winged comrades
Basked in the warmth
Of their freedom
Unmindful of their
Caged mate’s plight.
Wistfully she lived
Dreaming on of
Greeting the sun,
Spreading her wings
To touch the air..

She sang on
About her
Forbidden love,
Still unheard
Yet with a
Sprinkle of hope
Colouring her days
She awaited for
A blissful release..
